Xcode as a product (not counting the SDKs) has come a really long way since the unification of Xcode and Interface Builder. The Xcode xip is a huge download and it might be a big time waster for people who want to make SwiftUI apps for macOS 12 APIs. No, I was just surprised to see that the SDK was not included and it was presented in the release notes very discretely, and thus I wanted to alert people with my post. On top of that, they probably have a pretty complex macOS codebase at this point, despite the continous shelving of legacy code.
Also, most of the priority have been on the big-selling mobile devices. I know Apple doesn’t have a huge team dedicated to macOS development. A more accurate way to put it the way I intended, is: ”I speculate that RC2 will come out next week, seeing how the RC is not quite final”. That was not how it sounded in my head when I wrote it and never the intention, but I realize the whole paragraph might sound like it. Either that, or they release Xcode 13.1 together with macOS 12.0 RC late in October.ĮDIT: phrases such as ”I expect” can sound like demands. I expect RC2 to come out next week, followed by Xcode 13.0 at the end of September. Something critical obviously stopped the SDK from being included in the first RC build. This year, I thought things would be easier for them to deploy, but maybe not. I expected issues with the transition last year: Big Sur was sort of the huge leap from traditional modernized macOS to a rethinking of the whole UI, including ARM SoC optimizations on top of it. When the M1 Mac Mini was out and I had bought it, Xcode 12 was already stable. My previous Mac Mini could only run Catalina at most. Granted, I did not try the Big Sur SDK last summer and autumn during the beta and RC stages. Features being present in multiple betas and then suddenly dropped in the Release Candidate? Not so much. Features disappearing in later betas and getting reintroduced a few weeks later? Yes. It’s not normal at all, to be honest: beta releases drop and add features, especially between early developer betas 1 and 2, absolutely.
